'Operation Weekend Check' Targets Rural Sex Offenders
Officers from the Nevada Department of Public Safety – Division of Parole and Probation (NDPS/DPP) and Detectives with the Investigation Division (NDPS/ID) teamed up for a special operation targeting sex offenders in rural Northern Nevada.
On December 9th, 2012, DPS Officers and Detectives conducted Operation Weekend Check targeting sex offenders living in rural Northern Nevada. The operation targeted 35 sex offenders living throughout rural Northern Nevada. The operation was in an effort to increase the level of public safety and verify offender compliance during a weekend, in the targeted rural areas.
The increased officer presence allowed for home and employment contacts in remote areas in rural Nevada, as well as thorough home searches. Operation Weekend Check was deemed a success as 31 sex offenders were contacted. A majority of the sex offenders contacted were found to be in compliance. Four offenders were discovered to be in violation of their ordered conditions. Among some of the violations discovered was possession of pornographic materials. Several computers and a cell phone were seized as evidence. DPS is continuing the investigation of the violations discovered and further criminal charges may be pursued.
