RTC Offers Free Rides During 'Food for Fare'

Posted: Updated:

Today, the Regional Transportation Commission will provide free bus rides on all transit services for a donation of non-perishable/non-expired food items. This is the 20th year food donations are collected by coach operators instead of cash fares from passengers to benefit the Food Bank of Northern Nevada on RTC RIDE, RTC RAPID, RTC CONNECT, RTC INTERCITY and RTC ACCESS. Food donations will also be accepted on RTC SIERRA SPIRIT which operates free year round.

"We're delighted to have the RTC continue their support of the food bank and our local community through their annual Food for Fare program," said Cherie Jamason, President/CEO of the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. The Food Bank distributes more than 10 million pounds of food annually throughout the area. "Programs like Food for Fare and food drives throughout the area help us to provide food for families in our community. We depend on local support and very much appreciate the RTC's partnership."

For those members of the public who do not ride transit they can still donate food items to a coach operator at any RTC bus stop throughout its transit network.
