Virginia City, Emigrant Trails Tourism Grants

Posted: Updated:

RENO, Nev. (AP) -- Virginia City's historic district and the California Trail center near Elko are the big winners among 73 recipients of more than $500,000 worth of state marketing grants to promote rural tourism in Nevada.

The Nevada State Railroad Museum in Boulder City and Fallon's efforts to promote the Stillwater National Wildlife Refuge also won checks last week from the Nevada Commission on Tourism.

The National Historic California Emigrant Trails Interpretive Center Foundation received the most money -- $20,000.

The Virginia City Tourism Commission was awarded $12,000, and $10,000 was approved for Nevada Silver Trails -- a group that promotes travel to southern Nevada, excluding the Las Vegas area.

The Boulder City museum got $9,500, while Fallon tourism officials received $8,000 for the Stillwater refuge.
