As part of the Reno Bighorns' Season of Giving Night, Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada is collecting warm stocking caps, gloves, scarves and toiletry items for local homeless people. Anyone who brings an item to donate will receive a free ticket to the Monday night game on December 10th. The items collected will be distributed on January 22nd, 2013 at Project Homeless Connect, an annual collaborative homeless services event being held at the Reno Events Center.
"We need as many donations as we can get to help serve this vulnerable population during a really cold and difficult time of year," says Anne Schiller, Project Homeless Connect event organizer and Kids to Seniors Korner program manager at Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada.
This year's Project Homeless Connect event is expected to attract between 600 and 700 homeless people from the local area. Dozens of nonprofits, businesses and volunteers will be providing services at the event, including, medical, dental, vision and pet care; food, blanket and clothing giveaways; and other quality of life services such as haircuts, employment and housing assistance.
