United Blood Services honored a special group Wednesday -- platelet and plasma donors.
And my husband, Leonard - who was the recipient of their blood donations during his cancer treatment - was one of the guest speakers.
"I am so, so grateful to be able to thank you in person for your generosity."
We also heard from some donors at the Heroes Appreciation Luncheon at the Atlantis Casino -- which I emceed.
About 200 people were honored today - and Northern Nevada should feel good knowing they're committed to keeping a strong supply - for cancer and accident patients.
Platelet donations typically take about two hours, but this room full of people always make time for various reasons.
"Very loyal. They can donate up to 24 times a year if they're a platelet donor; 12 times if they're plasma... and they do," says donor recipient Lisa Rogers.
On behalf of our community, and my family, thank you to all our blood donors.
