A Gardnerville couple who went missing last week has reportedly been found Wednesday night. Unfortunately, Roderick Clifton was found dead in an area of heavy snow.
44-year-old Roderick Clifton and 46-year-old Paula Lane were supposed to return to their home in Nevada after leaving Citrus Heights, California. When they did not come home their families became worried.
Citrus Heights Police say the couple's vehicle became stuck in the snow while driving on Burnside Road, near Highway 88/89. Police believe the couple slept inside their vehicle for at least a day. Police say initial reports are that Clifton left the vehicle to look for help, but he never returned. He was later found dead in an area of heavy snow.
Paula's sister, Linda Hathaway spoke to news outlets on Thursday. "We are very happy she made it. It's been a rough haul, waiting all these days, trying to know if she made it or not."
Police say Paula eventually left the vehicle to look for help. She was then reportedly found by a family member on the road, as she was walking on the main highway. "Last night, when my brother called, I took the call and to hear him say, 'I found her, I found her.' I can't explain it for you."
Citrus Heights Police say Lane was transported to the Carson Tahoe Hospital for treatment for mild frostbite. Doctors there say they'll get Paula moving around tomorrow, but expect her to stay in the hospital through the weekend. Her sister says she can't wait to get home to be with her 11-year old twin sons.
Police say due to the location in the mountains, they were unable to receive cell phone reception.
