Red Cross Closes Evacuation Center at Sparks High School

Posted: Updated:

Since the Sparks industrial area was prone to possible flooding, the Northern Nevada Chapter of the American Red Cross set up an evacuation center, just in case.

About 20 volunteers were set up at Sparks High School, and they were prepared to assist up to 100 people if needed.

"They're glad that we're here and that they hope this storm goes away just like everyone else as quickly as possible," says Clara Andriola.

In the end, about half a dozen people showed up. The center closed at 4pm on Sunday.

Even though they didn't see much activity, they were prepared - and that's something the City of Sparks and other local governments made sure to do ahead of the storm.
