The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified the woman killed in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 80 near Fernley on Saturday night.

Troopers say just 9 p.m. Saturday, 41-year-old Tonya Babashoff of Fernley was heading west in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 52 in her Honda Civic. Authorities say a trooper in the area used road spikes in an effort to stop her near Wadsworth. Eventually the car collided with three other vehicles near mile marker 39.

Troopers say 21-year-old Richard Vogel of Mariposa, California swerved his Ford F-150 pickup right in an effort to avoid hitting the oncoming car. They say Babashoff hit Vogel's boat trailer before colliding head-on into a Ram 1500 pickup truck directly behind Vogel, driven by Vogel's brother, 22-year-old Justin C. Vogel, also of Mariposa.

Both vehicles then smashed into a fourth vehicle, a Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by 64-year-old Barry J. Strickler of Elko, who tried to avoid the crash by staying in both east lanes. Troopers say the left front of the Chevy hit the rear of the Honda.

Strickler and Richard Vogel were not hurt, while Justin Vogel suffered moderate to serious injuries and was flown by Careflight to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno.

Babashoff died at the scene. Toxicology test results are pending to see whether alcohol, drugs or prescription drugs contributed to the accident.

Both lanes of eastbound I-80 were blocked for about an hour as crews investigated the crash.
