The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating an accident involving two commercial trucks early Saturday morning.
Troopers say it happened around 2:40 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80, about 19 miles east of Fernley (near mile marker 67).
After a preliminary investigation, troopers learned a blue semi-trailer, driven by 34-year old Lawrence Burnett, Jr. of Sacramento, California, was driving east when he drifted into the median and then overturned the vehicle, which blocked both eastbound lanes. He was not injured.
Then, troopers say a red semi, driven by 64-year old Allen Weaver from Payette, Idaho was going east, when he struck the back of the overturned trailer. The red semi continued into the median, where it came to rest. Troopers say Weaver received serious injuries and was taken by helicopter to Renown Regional Medical Center where his condition is unknown at this time.
The accident is being investigated by the Nevada Highway Patrol's Major Accident Investigation Team.
