Sparks Industrial Park Prepares for Flooding

Posted: Updated:

The entire Sparks Industrial Park along the Truckee River is one of the biggest concern areas for potential flooding.

Businesses like Spanish Springs Construction say they know they're in a vulnerable area, so they're taking all the precautions they can to limit the damage.

"We had a lot of equipment and trucks out here in our yard that we had to move to higher ground," says Leslie Skinner. "And now we're working on getting all the important stuff out of the office and up to higher ground as well."

The last two days have been hectic for Spanish Springs Construction. Workers have moved all the equipment to one of the owner's houses who lives on higher ground.

They've placed tarps and sandbags on and around the building, hoping to keep as much rain out as possible.

The same goes for Swift Transportation trucking company. Workers loaded up more than 250 sandbags to place around the shop. The goal is to protect as much of the valuable equipment inside as they can.

"Mainly the office and then our shop," says Ryan Bugica. "Everybody's tool boxes and tools and all the electrical equipment and everything we use to work on the trucks with."

Folks who live in RVs close to the river are also in a vulnerable spot, but there is some help out there for them.

The Victorian RV Park in Sparks has space available in case people need to temporarily relocate due to the flooding.
