Looks like a soggy weekend on tap. But there are lots of things to do inside….from concerts to craft shows to holiday plays onstage. And there are even events just for the kids. D9on't miss the Tuba Christmas at the Wilbur may Museum. Enjoy!

Friday 11/30

9 AM  Wilbur May Museum Food Drive:

Last year, the Food Bank of Northern Nevada distributed more than 10.5 million pounds of food to over 210,000 low-income seniors, children and families in the region. Unfortunately the need never goes away.

During the last week of November, everyone that brings two canned or boxed non-perishable food items to the Wilbur May Museum will get free admission, and kids will get a special holiday scavenger hunt to win a prize! Monetary donations will also be accepted in the form of checks made out to the "Food Bank of Northern Nevada."

10 AM  Wilbur May Museum Season Art Show:

The Sierra Watercolor Society captures the sights of the season and more in their winter exhibit and sale. 'Celebrating the Season' includes regional artists displaying original watercolors depicting the holiday and/or winter season. Free admission.  

10 AM  Macy's Make-a-Wish:

Macy's is once again sponsoring the "Believe" campaign to benefit Make-A-Wish. Children and people of all ages may write a letter to Santa and post it in the Macy's Reno letterbox in the women's/children's store. Macy's will donate $1—up to $1 million total—for each letter received and this allows Make-A-Wish to grant wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. A number of organizations and schools are doing letter writing campaigns and the local chapter will grant a Carson City young lady her wish on Friday, December 14, which is National Believe Day. The campaign runs thru Dec. 24. 

5 pm Lights of Tanea:

Lights of Tanea presents its 7th annual Biggest Little Christmas Light Show in Reno! Christmas lights are synchronized to holiday music and transmitted to 97.7FM. It is a free event and organizers gratefully accept reusable clothing donations for Friends of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, non-perishable food donations for Evelyn Mount's Community Outreach, and monetary donations for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. 

6PM Louisiana Kitchen Live Jazz:

Enjoy Vocal Jazz from The Great American Songbook performed by First Take feat Rick Metz. All sit-ins by invitation only! Contact Rick ( to make your sit-in arrangements. NO COVER!

6PM Holly Jolly Paws Grand Sierra Resort:

Fundraiser in support of Shakespeare Animal Fund. Family-oriented holiday event with silent auction, food, music, children's activities, raffle for TV, pet photo contest, Santa Claus, face painting. 

8 PM Buttcracker IV the Zombie Apocalypse Bruka Theatre:

Back by popular demand Buttcracker IV – Zombie Apocalypse fills the community with a ridiculous holiday comedy beginning Nov. 16 and playing through Dec. 21. Brüka dances its pants off in this high-octane parody based on the holiday favorite The Nutcracker. This eclectic, hilarious and original performance experience is laced with Brüka's exciting theatrical style and features favorites from the past 3 productions


Saturday 12/1 

Tuba Christmas! Don't Miss it!:

It's a popular one….doors open at the Wilbur May Museum at 10 in the morning. The concert doesn't start til 3 but it's expected to be packed….with Tubas…and with listeners.

8 AM Washoe Valley Christian Fellowship Church Crafts Fair:

Over 40 original artists and crafters will be selling their handmade wares along with food and entertainment.

10 AM  Damonte Ranch Band Crafts Fair:

Come join us on Saturday, December 1st, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. for Damonte Ranch High School Band's 4th annual Craft Fair. Parking and admission to this event are free and open to the public. All net proceeds from booth rentals, raffle ticket sales and concessions will benefit the band.…



10 AM Made in Nevada Holiday Marketplace at the Flag Store in Sparks:

Discover authentic and unique art, gift, food items and other goods all produced and crafted by Nevadans right here in Nevada! Hundreds of products will be on display.

The Made in Nevada Holiday Marketplace will feature food, wine and gourmet items to please your taste and hundreds of products on display for a surprising and fun shopping experience.

Recycled Rugrats Holiday Open House Saturday 5-8 PM

High Quality gently used toys and clothing for kids with a holiday twist for their special Open House…And Santa will be there for pictures from 1-4 pm.


11 AM Reno Little Theater "And Elegant Christmas"

Marc Anthony at the Organ & Spiral Ballet combine talents to bring a heartwarming celebration of the magic of Christmas! A fun-filled performance of music, dance and comedy. A portion of the proceeds to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project 

2 PM Carson Community Center Peanut Cracker:

The Sierra Nevada Ballet will present the popular "PEANUTCRACKER – The Story in Nut Shell" in Carson City and in Reno. Based on the Peter Tchaikovsky's original ballet "The Nutcracker", PEANUTCRACKER is a shorter, 45-minute narrated version that is "designed for families with younger children to introduce them to the wonderful world of ballet," noted Rosine Bena, Artistic Director of the Sierra Nevada Ballet.

Carson City General Public Show – Dec. 1
In traditional fashion, PEANUTCRACKER – The Story in Nut Shell will open its public performance at the Carson City Community Center. The shows are 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Pre-show entertainment starts 45 minutes before each event with the Tintabulations Hand Bells starting at 1:15 pm show and the Carson City Strings in the Schools performing at 6:15 pm. Ticket prices start at $6 for youth (15 and under); all other tickets are $11 and can be reserved by calling Gina Nelson at 775-220-4452; tickets are also on sale on-site before each show.

3 PM Aladdin at the Eldorado:

Direct from the United Kingdom and a 10-city tour of China comes the most magical new family musical you'll have to see to believe – "Aladdin and His Lamp" on stage in the Eldorado Showroom Nov. 20 through Jan. 13.

A cast of live actors tell the magical tale of "Aladdin and His Lamp" with the fantastic new stage effect of Live Action 3D Megavison. This new technique brings the scenery into three dimensional reality as well as the character of the genie, which is a 3D cartoon that interacts live on stage with the actors and the audience.

Tickets start at just $24.95 for adults, $19.95 for children ages 3-12 and $21.95 for seniors age 60 and above. Dinner and show packages available from $34.95 and room and show packages from $49.90. Character meet-and-greet available for $5 after Saturday and Sunday matinees and includes a commemorative cast photo.

2 PM  50th Advent Tea at the Lutheran Church in Carson City:

You are invited to Our 50th Advent Tea for a special program followed by Tea & Cookies in the Church Fellowship Hall.
Dec. 2nd from 2- 4 pm.

Davidson's Children's Teddy Bear Chari-Tea:

Sunday's the day to head to the Gymboree for a workout and then tea from Davidsons Tea. It's a charity event and proceeds go to the Northern Nevada Children's Cancer Foundation.


8 PM Reno Philharmonic, Spirit of the Season:

This classic holiday celebration will play to a packed house on Saturday and Sunday. The Reno Philharmonic welcomes special guest performers Joe Gransden on the trumpet, the Reno Philharmonic Chorus, students from the Reno Philharmonic's ‘Celebrate Strings' program, J.R. John's Performing Dogs, the Sierra Nevada Children's Choir, Santa Tappers, and Santa Claus
