Sparks, NV - The National Weather Service is predicting substantial flooding to the Sparks Industrial area Sunday morning (December 2). The industrial area in Sparks is generally that area south of Interstate 80, north of the Truckee River, between Vista Boulevard on the east and US 395 on the west.
FLOOD PREPARATIONS
The City is in the process of establishing a total of 11 sandbag stations (map attached). Three of those stations will be open by 6:00 p.m. this evening.
- STATION 1 - Gateway Park: South of the intersection of 21st Street and Greg Street
- STATION 9 - Cottonwood Park: Spice Island Drive and Truckee River
- STATION 10 - Southeast corner of Deming Way and Kleppe Lane
The City encourages all businesses to take steps to prevent possible flooding to their properties. A map of all 11 sandbag locations will be posted on the City's website as soon as possible at www.cityofsparks.us or call 775.353.5555.
SPARKS HOMETOWNE CHRISTMAS
As a result of the potential of flooding and high wind conditions, the City of Sparks will POSTPONE the Sparks Hometowne Christmas Tree Lighting (Friday, November 30) and Christmas Parade (Saturday, December 1) until the following weekend, December 7 and 8 respectively.
Revised Schedule:
The tree lighting will be Friday, December 7 from 6:30-7:00 p.m. same location. The parade will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 8.
The IndieReno Craft Faire in the Sparks Heritage Museum at 814 Victorian Avenue and Train Depot (Special Events Office at 831 Victorian Avenue) IS STILL scheduled for Friday, November 30th from 6-9:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 1st from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
