Peppermill Hosting Poker Tournament for Humane Society

Posted: Updated:

The Peppermill Resort and Casino is hosting a Texas Hold'em Charity Poker Tournament on Thursday, November 29th at 7:00 pm, to benefit Nevada Humane Society's G.I. DOGS Program, which transforms abandoned animals into service dogs and pets for military veterans. There will be a $50 entry fee to the cash prize pool for the players, along with the option of purchasing $20 chip re-buys. There is also a final $20 chip add-on (last chance to purchase chips to increase your chance of winning the cash and trophy). All re-buy and add-on proceeds will directly benefit G.I. DOGS. Participants making the final $20 add-on will also receive a commemorative card cap medallion for free.

G.I. DOGS is a program that provides both service dogs and companion pets Nevada's military veterans at no cost to the veteran. The most suitable animals are selected for this program from the thousands of animals that are abandoned each year.

"This program is a wonderful way to help our veterans and save homeless pets—all at the same time. Studies show that pets benefit people in many ways, such as reducing stress and providing companionship. G.I. DOGS is offering that opportunity to veterans," said Mitch Schneider, Program Director of G.I. DOGS for Nevada Humane Society. "The program also benefits the homeless dogs and cats by finding them good homes."

The Peppermill is located at 2707 South Virginia Street in Reno. For further information regarding the tournament, call the Peppermill Poker Room at (775) 689-7275.

For more information on the G.I. DOGS program, call at (775) 856-2000 extension 323.
