The Placer County Sheriff's Office is reminding residents in North Lake Tahoe to be extra careful after seeing an increase in vehicle burglaries.

Deputies say they've seen an increase in this type of crime over the last few years.

Fortunately, they have made multiple arrests tied to these crimes. The latest was back on November 17th.  24-year-old Shane Jones of Kings Beach, a local security guard was arrested on numerous charges including thefts from vehicles and shoplifting. Deputies say Jones also had a petty theft warrant and is also facing charges for several narcotics crimes.

Because of the increase in vehicle burglaries deputies are reminding you not to leave any valuables in your car. They've seen cellphones, GPS units, iPads and laptops, cash, jewelry, guns, purses and wallets, even bicycles and snowboards stolen.

They also say if you are the victim of a theft it is important to file a report so they can look for suspects and hopefully return the items to you when an arrest is made.
