Prescribed Burns Set to Run Through March Now Underway

Posted: Updated:

Now through March you can expect to see some smoke in the skies up at Lake Tahoe.

The Nevada Division of Forestry is starting to burn slash piles in the North Canyon area west of Carson City.

After that project is finished, crews will be burning at Sand Harbor, Slaughterhouse Canyon and the Van Sickle Unit at South Lake Tahoe. That project is expected to last through March 2013.

The U.S. Forest Service will also be burning starting Tuesday, November 27th. Crews plan to burn two acres in the Cold Creek area near South Lake Tahoe. Then Wednesday crews will be burning in the Ward Canyon area south of Ward Creek on the west side of the Lake.

Forest service staff will post road signs in areas affected by the prescribed burns. You can also get information on these burns by calling (530) 543-2600 extension 6.
