The Carson City Sheriff's Office confirms two men were arrested at the Carson City Inn Monday afternoon following the investigation of a bank robbery earlier in the morning.
The Sheriff's Office says at 9:08 a.m. on Monday a man came into the Wells Fargo Bank at the corner of Stewart and Musser Streets and demanded money. Then he fled on foot.
Sheriff's Office detectives and FBI agents spent the morning looking at evidence and gathering witness statements. The Sheriff's Office say while investigators were watching video, a Reno-based FBI agent recognized one witness at the Wells Fargo in Carson as similar to another witness at a Nevada State Bank robbery on Liberty Street in Reno.
That person was 44-year-old Kenneth Wayne Young. A records check discovered Young is a resident at the Carson City Inn. Sheriff's deputies went to the Inn and found Young watching them from across the street. Investigators talked to Young and discovered an associate of his, 36-year-old Michael Lee Smith was also living at the Carson City Inn. Smith's vehicle found in the hotel parking lot matched the description of a vehicle used in a Reno robbery.
Sheriff Ken Furlong says both suspects surrendered peacefully and searches of their hotel rooms turned up evidence from the Wells Fargo robbery and information tying them to the Nevada State Bank robbery last Tuesday.
The FBI has assumed the investigation and both suspects are currently in custody.
