The Nevada Highway Patrol have a carjacking suspect behind bars Saturday morning.
Troopers say a Toyota pickup truck crashed on Interstate-80, near mile marker 77 in Churchill County around 8 a.m.
Troopers say an elderly couple driving in a Lincoln sedan pulled over to help the driver of the pickup. The suspect then assaulted the man, stole the couple's vehicle and headed east on I-80 at a high rate of speed. The couple was already out of the sedan when the suspect drove off.
Troopers say the suspect then drove more than 90 miles to Humboldt County when he tried to pass two semi-trucks, about 10 miles west of Winnemucca. During that time, he was driving 120+ MPH, lost control of the vehicle and crashed once again. A trooper was in the area at the time and tried to approach the suspect who ran off on foot. The trooper eventually caught up to the suspect and took him into custody.
The suspect's name has not been released at this time. He is charged with driving under the influence, possession of stolen property, along with facing multiple drug and traffic offenses.
