Holiday Weekend Moviegoing Could Reach Record High

Posted: Updated:

For those not heading to shopping centers - the movie theaters are expected to be popular spots this holiday weekend.

The Hollywood Reporter says this could be a record weekend for movie ticket sales with "The Life of Pi" doing better than expected Wednesday.

That along with new release "Rise of the Guardians" could help box office totals reach the $275-million mark for Wednesday through Sunday.

"Usually when we come every year, we've been coming forever, it's usually kind of a quiet time, so I am very surprised," says Carrie Rubins of Reno.

And while there were definitely movie-goers today, it wasn't too packed when we were there.

By the way, the current Thanksgiving weekend record is nearly $259-million set in 2009.
