Police say they arrested two men after a pursuit through parts of Sparks Monday afternoon.
Around 3:30pm, a Washoe County detective in an unmarked patrol car saw a woman in distress in the area of Holman and Pyramid Way. The detective turned around and saw a Toyota Camry with two men inside it speed away. When he went back to check on the woman, she said that she had just been robbed at gunpoint.
The detective then caught up with the Camry – and advised dispatchers he was in pursuit with two armed robbery suspects. Sparks Police officers then joined the chase, which traveled south on Pyramid, east on Prater, south on McCarran, east on I-80, south on Sparks Blvd., east on Greg and then east on Larkin Circle where they say the two men bailed from the car in front of the Peterbuilt company.
One suspect who ran away was later identified as 29-year-old Albenjo Sioson. He was taken into custody.
The second suspect was later identified as 26-year-old Richard Ornelas. They say he carjacked a newer model Chevy extra cab truck and tried to ram Sparks officers as he was fleeing, but was unsuccessful.
Washoe County, Sparks Police, Reno Police and NHP then pursued Ornelas north on Vista and into Pah Rah Park where he crashed into a pine tree. Officers then placed Ornelas at gunpoint - at which time they say he grabbed his backpack and exited the left side of the truck and ran.
A Sparks officer tackled him a short distance later.
None of the victims involved in this incident were hurt and Ornelas only suffered minor injuries.
Both suspects were taken to the Sparks Police Department to be interviewed by detectives.
The victim's property was recovered along with the pistol believed to be involved in the robbery.
