‘Texting Can Wait’ Pedestrian Event Held on UNR Campus
University of Nevada Police Services and Davidson Academy students helped get the word out that 'Texting Can Wait.'
They asked visitors on Tuesday to sign a petition committing to "look up, unplug, stay safe" on area roadways and reminded visitors to wait until after they crossed the street to text. As an incentive, Pedestrian Safety team members handed out prizes and free gifts, as well as educational materials about safe walking and driving.
They also shared information regarding the new cell phone law and reminded visitors that it's illegal to even touch their cell phone while driving a vehicle.
Tuesday's event helped kick off their newly received grant from the Office of Traffic Safety at the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center.
