San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith has been declared out for Monday night's game against Chicago with a concussion.
Team medical director Dr. Dan Garza evaluated Smith, who was hurt eight days ago against St. Louis.
The 49ers will start second-year quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who replaced Smith in the 24-24 tie with the Rams last week.
We talked to some fans at Bully's off of Pyramid in Sparks and asked them what they think of Kaepernick getting the start.
"I like that fact that he's a clutch player, his running game is really good, he's all over the place and very versatile," said Tim Trissel.
"It's pretty great," said Steve Martin. I grew up in central valley where Kap went to school, so I got to know him there, and here at Mackay Stadium and he just lit it up year after year. When he got drafted by the 49ers, I was happy, I was like, he's got his chance. I think he's going to light it up, it's going to be a real blast."
Chicago also is without starting quarterback Jay Cutler because of a concussion. Jason Campbell will start. (AP)
