Police: 15 Thanksgiving Turkeys Stolen From Evelyn Mount

Posted: Updated:

Reno police are on the lookout for the thieves who stole more than a dozen Thanksgiving turkeys from freezers in the garage of an 86-year-old woman who has been collecting food for the needy for nearly three decades.

Known as Washoe County's chief good Samaritan, Evelyn Mount says 15 turkeys and about 50 Cornish game hens were taken from two freezers at her northeast Reno home sometime Friday. She's not sure what else is missing.

Mount told the Reno Gazette-Journal that donations to her Community Outreach operation had been relatively sparse so far and that Friday's loss represented a substantial setback. She says she's making an impassioned plea for more donations.

Last year, Community Outreach provided 20,000 food bags to the needy in November and December.

If you have any information, call Secret Witness at 322-4900 or text your tip to 847411. Your call will remain anonymous.

Thankfully -- our community is stepping up to help her recover in a big way.

The executive director for Hot August Nights called that event's sponsor, Save Mart and has arranged for 50 turkeys to be delivered to Mount this Friday.

If you need help -- you can call either 356-0238 or 359-0807 through Thanksgiving.

And for those of you who want to donate, you can drop off food at Evelyn's house at 2530 Cannan Street.

Or send checks to:
