Nevada Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a rollover near Tonopah that killed a Las Vegas woman.

Troopers say the accident happened on Saturday just after 9am on US6 east of mile marker 48 in Tonopah.

They say a preliminary investigation indicates a 1999 Nissan Quest was heading west on US6 when for some unknown reason it crossed into oncoming traffic onto the south dirt shoulder, hit a paddle marker and traveled more than 550 feet before striking a culvert and overturning.

The driver, 76-year-old John Lehan of Las Vegas, was thrown from the Nissan and suffered injuries to his upper body and was transported to Nye County Hospital. The passenger, 71-year-old Sharon Lehan of Las Vegas, died at the scene.

Troopers say both people were wearing their seatbelts and it's currently unknown if alcohol was involved.

The state route was not closed for the accident.
