Mendive Middle School Students Honor Veterans

Mendive Middle School in Sparks hosted its second annual Veterans Day luncheon on Friday.

The leadership class put this event together and wrote special messages for all the veterans in attendance.

Students say they got a lot out of today's event.

"They've served our country and made a lot of sacrifices. So, it's just nice to have everyone get together, make new friends and just honor them," says 7th grader Kye Steiner.

Students also watched a slide show explaining why it's important to honor our veterans.

And there are many other ways our vets will be honored this weekend, as well.

Doughboys Donuts, located at 57 Damonte Ranch Parkway and 5115 Mae Anne Avenue in Reno will offer free donuts to veterans on Sunday.

Drs. Holmes, Mannikko & Beglin will host a free dental clinic to veterans at their Carson City office on Friday. They're located at 525 W. Washington Street. The clinic will run from 8am-3pm. Their phone number is 775-882-4247.

Applebee's is offering free meals to veterans and active-duty service members on Sunday. Last year, Applebee's served over one million free meals to military veterans and active servicemembers. There will be 7 entrées to choose from, beverage and gratuity not included. Military ID or proof of service required.

Famous Dave's is offering a 25% discount to military personnel. It's also hosting a 'Tip a Veteran' event at its Reno location, 4925 Kietzke Lane. 775-826-7427

Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, Inc. is giving away one free Tavern Double to all guests who show their military ID, proof of service or who are in military uniform on Monday. In Reno, Red Robin is located at 4999 Kietzke Lane and in Sparks at 4712 Galleria Parkway. (775)825-7246 and (775)626-9700.

Olive Garden will offer a free entrée from a special menu to Veterans who dine on Sunday with a military ID. The Reno location is 4900 South Virginia, (775) 829-1500, Legends in Sparks at 1481 East Lincoln Way, (775) 356-9500 and Carson City at 4253 South Carson Street, (775) 883-7471.

Harrah's Casino in Reno is giving all veterans and active servicemembers free meals at the Carvings Buffet on Sunday and Monday. 219 North Center Street, (775) 786-3232.

Squeeze In is offering free meals up to $15 to any veteran with proof of ID in any of their four locations.

Denny's is offering all-you-can-eat pancakes from 6am-12pm on Monday to all active, inactive and retired military personnel.

Gold Dust West Casino is offering free meals to all current and active military with current or retired ID.

The City of Reno is hosting a Veterans Day parade Sunday at 11am at Powning Veterans Memorial Park on South Virginia Street. This year's theme is "For Those Who Served, Every Day is Veterans Day."

And - the Veterans Guest House at 880 Locust Street in Reno is celebrating by holding an open house. There you can learn about the services they provide. They will also have an Agent Orange balloon release ceremony, starting at 9:30am Sunday.

Sun Valley is holding a free Veterans Day celebration from 11am-2pm on Monday at the Sun Valley Community Center located at the Sun Valley Park, 115 West 6th Avenue. There'll be VFW presentations and a free barbecue.
