NV Energy to Help With Restoration Efforts on East Coast

Posted: Updated:

Three NV Energy crews are on their way to New York today on C-5 and C-17 aircraft, courtesy of the US Air Force. NV Energy will be assisting Long Island Power Authority in repairing damage caused by Hurricane Sandy.

Since early last week, NV Energy has been recruiting volunteers and coordinating with the Edison Electric Institute, the association of U.S. shareholder-owned electric companies, to determine where its resources would be deployed and to secure transportation from Nevada to New York.

The 18 crew members, 7 from northern Nevada and 11 from southern Nevada, began preparations last Friday to travel east. Today, the 12 crew trucks, including line trucks and other support vehicles, were loaded on aircraft at both Travis Air Force Base in Sacramento, Calif. and Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas.

NV Energy crews will join the nearly 10,000 restoration workers assisting LIPA to restore electric service.
