Washoe County School Bus Drivers Prepare for Winter
Washoe County school bus drivers are getting prepared for the winter season with a little competition.
This is the second year of the Chain Championship at the school district's transportation yard north of Reno on Doubleback Road.
Drivers compete to be the best and fastest at getting chains on their busses' tires.
"This just kind of lightens it up and makes sure we're getting what we need to be done. Having our gear ready, having the chains properly installed and all that," says bus driver Kimberly Thompson.
The school district says its the number one priority in winter months is getting students to and from school without incident.
When storms do come to our area, parents can find out about school delays or closures on our website ktvn.com. We post and broadcast them every morning.
WCSD also sends a recorded call through Blackboard Connect to the homes of all students and staff affected by the decision. Parents can also call the Parent Hotline (334-8373) and check the District website (www.washoecountyschools.org), Twitter, and Facebook pages. District personnel contact local media outlets with the most current information. This District-wide communication effort concludes before 6 a.m. in order to allow parents enough time to plan their day.
