The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Carson City District and Alpine County is closing the Airport Fire woodcutting area to public woodcutting on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012. This fire burned 81 acres of BLM and Alpine County land during the 2011 fire season and was opened to public woodcutting on Sept.29, 2012. There has been approximately 120 cords of wood collected and the supply is significantly diminished.
The fire/woodcutting area is located near the Indian Creek Recreation Area and the Alpine County Airport along Airport Road. Members of the public who have purchased permits for this area can also use these permits on dead and downed wood on other firewood permitted areas within the BLM Carson City District.
For those who wish to buy additional fire wood permits for other areas, they can be purchased from the BLM office in Carson City at 5665 Morgan Mill Road and the Alpine County Chamber of Commerce in Markleeville, Calif., at 3 Webster Street. Permits sell for $10/cord and are sold year round.
