Try RTC Transit Free on Election Day

Posted: Updated:

The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) is offering the public free transit rides throughout the Reno/Sparks area on RTC RIDE, RAPID, and CONNECT as well as to and from Carson City on RTC INTERCITY Tuesday, November 6th. This is an opportunity for the public to try transit free to save gas money, reduce wear and tear on their vehicles, help the environment and experience the benefits of using public transportation. It also provides the public the choice to take transit and to get out and vote.

RTC RIDE transit service is the area's public transit system providing residents and visitors with safe and reliable bus service. With this free transit day event, the RTC aims to introduce the use of public transportation to the non-transit riding public to ride the bus for the first time or to get back on board if it's been awhile. The RTC's fixed-route transit system provides 8 million passenger trips annually getting people to work, recreational locations, medical appointments and shopping trips.

RTC Director of Public Transportation and Operations David Jickling stated, "Public transportation not only benefits users economically, it is a proven benefit to the environment, our quality of life and a vital component of our community's economic development."

Since the "RTC's Try Transit Free Day" will occur on Election Day, this also provides everyone another transportation option to reach their polling location and cast their votes in the general election. "There are many citizens who do not have transportation to reach the polls. I am very appreciative of the RTC's efforts to provide the choice of public transportation to everyone on Election Day, and encourage the public to try transit on November 6th," said Secretary of State Ross Miller, Nevada's Chief Elections Officer.

RTC RIDE routes serve several polling locations throughout Washoe County. To find out if your polling location is on one of RTC's routes, check your sample ballot for your polling location and visit www.rtcwashoe.com or call RTC Passenger Services at 348-RIDE for route and schedule information.
