The Washoe County Health District is boosting its efforts to keep our air healthy this winter.
"Plug it in, just like filling up your gar at the gas station..."
Part of their efforts include a new -- and free -- charging station for electric vehicles at the health district offices on Ninth Street in Reno.
"What we're trying to do with electric vehicle is lower tailpipe emissions and basically help clean the ozone," says air quality specialist Craig Petersen.
The air quality management division also has a new mission, called "Keep it Clean." They want to make sure everyone remembers what to do when the burn code is green - yellow or red.
Green means it's ok to use your fireplace or pellet stove.
Yellow means go easy on how much you burn.
And when the burn code is red, don't burn at all.
Officials often issue a red burn code during the winter when an inversion traps pollutants -- resulting in a brown haze we sometimes see over the valley.
