Last-Minute Halloween Shopping

Posted: Updated:

Plenty of folks are celebrating Halloween this week. For many, the most exciting part of it all, is picking a costume. Halloween store employees say there are a lot of procrastinators out there. But there are still plenty of options.

We're told hours before Saturday night's Zombie Crawl in Downtown Reno, Spirit Halloween stores were packed.

"It was just absolutely crazy," said Stephen Lemons, an employee at Spirit Halloween. "People were in and out constantly."

Over the last few days customers have been pouring in.

"It was mostly last-minute shoppers for costumes and makeup," says Lemons.

Spirit Halloween also sells some scary-looking props. We found a family picking out a few second items for their haunted house.

"We try to make it bigger and better each year," says Tom Sudduth. "Haunted garage gets bigger and bigger so we're adding more and more all the time."

And to put together a good haunted house, you have to invest quite a bit of dough. Sudduth has spent around $4,000 so far.

"We get people coming from all over actually," he says. "So it's a good event for us."

If folks want to put their creative juices to work, there's a place for that too. Customers at Junkee Clothing Exchange admit, picking out a great costume isn't easy.

But at Junkee Clothing Exchange, you can pretty much create your own.

"If you go to the places that have boxed costumes already, it's usually hard to find what you're looking for," says Sylvia Baldemor, while trying on a costume.

Junkee Clothing Exchange owner Jessica Schneider says a pirate costume is easy to throw together because chances are, you already have everything you need.

"You can wear scarves around your neck, all the jewelry that you have in your own closet," she says. "A skirt, boots, black shadow makeup."

If you're running out of time while looking to save some cash this Halloween, Schneider says look directly to your wardrobe at home.

"I think you can really pull your own costumes out of your own closet and you can do anything," she says.
