Nevada Highway Patrol Investigating Accident on I-580
The Nevada Highway Patrol are investigating after an accident on I-580 Saturday morning.
Troopers say it happened in the southbound lanes between the Mill and Glendale exits around 8:30 a.m.
Troopers say after an initial investigation, they learned the driver of a small passenger car was driving south when she tried to avoid a trash can with leaves left in the road. Troopers say she then started to spin out of control and struck a pick-up truck. The car then continued to spin and was hit by another pick-up truck before finally coming to a stop.
The driver of the small passenger car received serious injuries. She was immediately taken to the hospital and placed in the intensive care unit. Troopers did not have an update on her condition.
The occupants of the two pick-up trucks received minor injuries.
Three of the southbound lanes were closed until about 11:45 a.m. while crews were on scene, cleaning up the accident. Troopers say traffic was backed up to the Oddie Boulevard exit.
Troopers are also looking for the driver of the vehicle who lost the trash can that was found in the roadway before the accident.
If you know anything, you're being asked to call the Nevada Highway Patrol at (775) 688-2500. You can ask for Trooper Chris Kelly, one of the lead investigators.
