Students at Clayton Middle School got to learn about the importance of going to college on Thursday.
The University of Nevada marching band along with the cheerleaders and mascot "Alphie" held a "College Day" assembly for students.
Clayton students have been learning about college all week.
The idea is to make them start thinking about where to go, even though it may seem far away.
"We also want to make sure these students understand that they are all capable of going to college and we're expecting they to college and we can't wait for them to arrive on our campuses," says associate dean of students Marcelo Vazquez.
Vazquez says increasing the number of students who go to UNR will also help the state's economy.
The Nevada Wolf Shop donated hundreds of UNR t-shirts for the students to take home.
