President Obama Seeks Votes in Evening Rally in Vegas

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- President Barack Obama asked Democratic voters in Las Vegas for crucial re-election support, telling them during a short campaign stop that they could tilt Nevada into his column in the Nov. 6 election.

Obama appeared late Wednesday at an outdoor rally featuring a free concert by pop singer Katy Perry at a park near downtown Las Vegas.

It was the third stop -- after Davenport, Iowa, and Denver -- in a frenzied cross-country trip that Obama called his "campaign extravaganza" tour. He says he also stopped in Los Angeles for an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.

The Las Vegas campaign event drew more than 10,000 people, according to fire officials and organizers, with long lines still on sidewalks during Perry's 30-minute performance before Obama arrived.
