The Food Bank of Northern Nevada is kicking off the holiday food drive season Thursday night at Sparks' Great Basin Brewing Company.
Businesses, organizations and individuals can sign up and receive their boxes or barrels to get started collecting non-perishable food items to help the hungry in our region.
The food bank feeds people all year long, but collects most of its food during November and December. Jocelyn Lantrip of the Food Bank of Northern Nevada says it helps when people pick up the barrels. "It costs about a hundred dollars for us to take a load and bring them into town," she said. "We do about 300 food drives throughout the season and every little bit helps," she added.
Thursday's event is 4 to 7pm at 846 Victorian Avenue. Another event was held Monday at 775 Gastropub inside Reno's Meadowood Mall.

Businesses or organizations will receive a personalized URL for their food drive to track the amount of donations that they are able to raise. The Virtual Food Drive URL can be shared through email, social media and more. Each dollar donated helps to deliver four meals to those who need them.
