Early voting is underway in Nevada and the final weeks of campaigning are finally here. We've profiled several candidates running for Reno City Council, and Sunday night all eight of them came together at the Sinai Temple in Reno, answering questions submitted by folks in the audience.
"I learned a lot tonight and it's going to help me when I actually cast my vote," says Rod Sloane of Reno.
Candidates covered issues all over the board, including the future of Aces Ballpark, ethics and the city budget.
"The city does so many things that affect us in everyday life," says David Ward, a candidate for the at-large seat. "Fires, streets, police. There's so much going on."
Hillary Shieve and Ward are the two running for that at-large seat. Both agree the presidential race is garnering much of the attention this political season and at times, these Reno City Council races tend to go overlooked.
"But we are one of the most important elements on the ballot," says Shieve. "So I think that people are starting to listen and hopefully they'll understand what we're trying to do."
The voters in attendance we caught up with say it's good to be up to date on all the local issues. The most disappointing thing for voters and the candidates, was the turnout. Only a handful of people were in attendance.
"We were able to put in our questions and they answered them," says Sloane. "Some of the questions were mine, so I was happy with that."
