Early voting started bright and early Saturday morning in northern Nevada, as thousands of people made their way to the polls.
"We just wanted to come over and vote," says Vicki McCarthy. "We wanted to make sure we got here. We were going to be here when it opened, but I overslept."
125 voter machines are set up at 22 locations in Washoe County. Voters tell us some of those spots were busy.
"We tried to go to the library first out in Galena, but it was a little too crowded there," says Nancy Sarmento. "So, we decided to come to Scolari's and it was actually pretty quick."
The line looked long at the Scolari's on South Virginia Street, but it moved fast. Most people waited between 15 and 20 minutes to get through.
"This is really awesome to see this many people out this early voting," says Tim McCarthy. "I think it's fantastic."
Looking around though, there weren't many young people out and about. Not too surprising to some voters.
"Just us old people get out and do this," says McCarthy. "I think young people, they've got other things on their minds, but they'll make their decision before the election."
Norma Rasche first voted when Franklin Roosevelt was in office. She says since then, the public's attitude toward voting has certainly changed.
"A lot of people are too busy doing other stuff," says Rasche. "They don't do what they're supposed to do."
No doubt, much has changed since Roosevelt was in office. That includes the candidates themselves.
"I think we're all hoping that the ads will stop when we vote, but I don't think we'll be so lucky," says Sarmento.
More than 141,000 people are registered to vote in Washoe County. That's 10,000 more than the previous record.
Officials say many of them will be voting early through November 2nd.
