There will be a lot of people celebrating our local culinary community all next week.
It's the inaugural Reno Bites week, featuring different foods from 15 restaurants in the area.
"And, really getting the locals to try and explore meals that they may not have before," says Natasha Bourlin, the event organizer.
15 restaurants will prepare a signature menu or item for folks to try.
"We wanted everything. The food trucks, which are so popular, to fine dining," says Bourlin.
Four premiere events will be held throughout the week, including one at SoDo. There, chefs will compete in a cooking showdown.
"This is the best time for this to happen to us. It gets everybody back out into the community taking advantage of all the culinary events," says Joel Giandalia, the owner of SoDo.
People can spend anywhere from $8, all the way up to $175 for a meal. Most of the restaurants are offering pretty good deals though.
"Somebody can come in and get a three course meal at SoDo over the next week for $20.12," says Giandalia. "Which is going to be close to what would typically be about half. Great opportunity to get out, have great food, have a great time."
Another restaurant participating in next week's event is Bistro 7. They'll be offering three-course meals every day.
"Tuesday night, we're going to have a five-course dinner that we're going to represent five different locally owned wineries," says David Bogart, owner of Bistro 7. "So, we're excited about that."
Bogart says a lot of folks get in the habit of eating at chain restaurants. So, this is an opportunity to shake things up a bit.
"All of our ingredients are made from local farmers and brought in local meats," he says.
This is the time of year business really picks up for Reno restaurants, meaning this event is a good push heading into fall and winter.
"More expansion," says Giandalia. "Get a wider guest base, if you will."
Reno Bites week starts on Monday and runs through Sunday.
