Delgado, Young Compete for Reno's Ward 3

Posted: Updated:

This election cycle will produce the biggest turnover the Reno City Council has seen in ten years. Four seats are up for grabs. In Ward 3, both Cliff Young and Oscar Delgado are hoping to replace Jessica Sferrazza.

Cliff Young is a local attorney who has spent the last 30 years on community advisory boards and wants to be more involved by joining the Reno City Council. He has a background in law and in business and feels he could be helpful in directing Reno's future. He has a specific interest in public safety, which he sees as more than police and fire.

"I consider flood management an important part of public safety," Young says. "Until we get that under control, how can we expect to have foreign companies move here thinking that every ten years they could be destroyed."

Oscar Delgado has a background in social work and in urban planning. He currently works for the Health Access Network and he says getting to the future will take some changes in Reno.

"There isn't one single issue...but overall it's the economy making sure jobs are created and finding ways to work with our University and the local schools and with other government entities like Washoe County and Sparks," Delgado says. "I think we have some high hurdles to clear but we can do if we work together."

Delgado was the top vote-getter in the primary. This is the first run for office for both of the candidates.
