The list of Things 2 Do this weekend is a long one. Not only are there pumpkin patches and haunted houses, there is a marching band competition, a charity walk, a military appreciation day in Sparks and a zombie wedding. And we've got all the details on how to get to it all…below. Enjoy!

 

Friday 10/12

Gem Gallery Breast Cancer Awareness Sale

Zombie wedding 3 PM parking lot of the Junkee Clothing Exchange

It's a warm up for the Halloween Holiday and for the upcoming Zombie Pub Crawl…a Zombie Wedding…set to take place in the parking lot of Junkee Clothing Exchange in midtown Reno. Nuptials at 3 PM

 

Nevada National Guard Retiree Appreciation Day

The long-time military service and dedication of recently-retired Nevada Army Guard soldiers will be recognized Saturday October 13, in Carson City during the annual Retiree Appreciation Day. Activities begin at 9:30 a.m. and the actual ceremony starts at 11:00 a.m. It all takes place at the office of the Adjutant General at 2460 Fairview Drive in Carson City.

Military Appreciation Day Sparks Museum 11-4

The Sparks Museum if extending a community Thank You to the veterans with a Military Appreciation Day. It will involve the Sparks Museum and spread to the park behind the museum too where kids of all ages will find get to climb on military vehicles and see how to operate a submarine.  It runs from 11-4.

A Night with the Spirits at the May Museum

Join local paranormal investigators for a special night of after hours fun at the Wilbur D. May Museum. Mark and Debby Constantino of Spirits-Speak will lead a guided ghost hunt to see if they can make contact with any spirits in the collection which features rare and exotic relics from around the world. Donner Party Hike 7:30 a.m.

Hikers can experience the early emigrants' journey across the Sierra Nevada mountains without reliving the dangers Oct. 13 & 14 by participants in the 20th Annual Donner Party Hike.

Participants can choose from seven different hikes on Saturday and on Sunday a walking tour. All events offer insight into emigrant history from area guides, along with invigorating recreation and beautiful scenery.

Space is limited for all events and reservations are required. Early registration for the Saturday hikes is $45 ($50 after Sept. 28) per hiker and includes a guided hike, commemorative ballcap, BBQ lunch and afternoon presentation. Sunday's walking tour is $15 and includes the guided walk and entrance to the Emigrant Trail Museum. 2-day hike package is $60 ($65 after Sept. 28).

Community Bulb Planting May Museum 10 a.m.

Volunteers are needed to help plant thousands of daffodil bulbs throughout the Wilbur D. May Arboretum & Botanical Garden. Come spring - the bulbs will bloom bringing a burst of color to the 20+ acre facility. Refreshments will be served. Marching band competition at Galena high 2:45 PM:

This Saturday the Galena High School Marching band will host the 10th Annual Performance of Champions! Eleven local  High School bands will compete by performing their halftime shows. The actual concert performance starts at Galena at 2:45.

10 AM JDRF Walk at UNR

The 19th annual Northern Nevada 8K Walk to Cure Diabetes in support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is the organization's largest fund-raising event and an opportunity to raise awareness for the more than 250,000 Nevada residents, including children, which are diagnosed with diabetes.

The Walk begins at 10 am with registration opening at 9 am.

4:30 Animal Ark Last Chance Cheetah Dash

This is the last cheetah run of the season! Admire their awesome acceleration, from 0-45 mph in 3 seconds, with 22-foot strides and a top speed of 60 mph! Fun for the entire family. Come early to allow time to visit the other wild resident predators and raptors at the Animal Ark prior to the cheetah run. Reservations are required as event sells out. Children must be at least 10 years old to participate. $40 adults, $35 seniors, $30 children 10-16.
