Places 2 Check Out: The Public House

Posted: Updated:

Inside one of Midtown's oldest buildings might just be your first chance to try some of the worlds most unique beers. Have your heard of Firestone Wookey Jack? It's a black IPA-poured right from the tap at The Public House. Or how about Duvel? One large bottle sells for $300!

Chris Costa opened The Public House to give Reno a comfortable place to hang with friends and try some interesting drinks. And he's a perfect fit for Midtown which is becoming the place to be for the 30's and up crowd. "The post college crowd can stay and start a career here and they also feel comfortable going out to bars that they didn't necessarily rage at at one point when they went to school here."

And it's not just beers at The Public House. Chris actually specializes in mixology. "This is the rocket man so some arugula, little bit of sugar to sweeten it up about an ounce of lime juice and some dry gin specially made in San Francisco."

In another cocktail, Chris uses a fresh egg mixed with jam and whiskey and topped with drops of lavender bitters. "We don't want you to get a drink that you can make at home or drink at home. That's why you'll see all these beer lists and cocktail lists."

Midtown bars and restaurants are getting the attention of boutique distributors which means Reno as a whole is getting more unique options... thanks to places like The Public House.
