VPG Autos Pushes for Universal Vehicle

Posted: Updated:

Did you know there are less than 10 handicap accessible cabs in Reno-Sparks? That was the focus of an event in Sparks Tuesday.

MV-1 by VPG Autos is the first vehicle designed and built for universal accessibility.

It is 100% compliant with the American Disabilities Act - from the 36-inch wide door to a ramp built right into the vehicle.

And it's not just for people in wheelchairs. It's also good for people with arthritis or who struggle with tall and low cars.

"People are traveling, people work, people go to doctor's appointments. Here in Reno there is a huge need for this vehicle because it fits everybody," says consumer advocate Madonna Long.

VPG says the car is already on the road nationwide and it's hoping to see local cab companies start using it too -- so they can serve anyone who needs it.
