Repeat Offender Arrested After Incident At Sparks Hotel
Sparks Police have a repeat offender behind bars on several charges Monday afternoon.
Police responded to the Aloha Inn on North McCarran Boulevard around 12:30 p.m. on a report of two suspicious white men walking from floor-to-floor at the hotel and scaring the guests.
When officers arrived on scene, they found one of the men, 41-year old Johnny McArthur, at the nearby AM-PM gas station. Soon, officers noticed he had a knife.
Police say they suspected McArthur and the other man might have been associated with a stabbing that had taken place across the street, earlier in the morning.
When officers began to pat down McArthur to search for any other weapons, he reportedly turned around and charged at an officer.
Police say he then started to fight with the two officers. During that incident, a hidden handgun fell from McArthur's clothing. He was soon subdued by more officers arriving on scene and was taken into custody.
McArthur received minor injuries to his knees and face, while an officer received minor injuries to the elbow and wrist. Neither of them received treatment at the hospital.
Police say records show McArthur has had numerous past contacts with police in the Reno-Sparks area and has had prior felony convictions.
McArthur was booked into the Washoe County jail on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm and obstructing a police officer.
