Reno Police say they have a man behind bars who they believe was involved in a recent rash of hot prowl burglaries in the northwest Reno area.

Police say they had seen a recent pattern of the burglaries in the area west of Virginia Street, extending out toward Keystone Avenue.

There had been at least six reported burglaries dating back to September 24th, where the victims were home and asleep. Police say the suspect(s) entered the occupied homes late in the evening, or early morning hours, grabbing car keys and any items left near the homes' entrances.

Police say the suspect(s) would then drive away from the area in the victim's vehicle, usually leaving it a short distance away from the home, taking items left inside.

Then, early Monday morning, an officer saw one of the stolen vehicle in the area of Sky Mountain Drive and after a short foot chase, he arrested the driver, 31-year old Anthony Halnan. Halnan was cooperative with police. He admitted to at least one of the burglaries and another incident at the local Pub And Sub in the same area.

Halnan is charged with two counts of burglary, identity theft, possession of credit cards without the owner's consent, possession of stolen property and obstructing and resisting an officer.

Police say the investigation is on-going and other charges are pending.

The Reno Police Department is reminding the public to "ensure your home and garage are locked and closed at night, to include windows and dog doors. It is common that these types of criminals will only target unlocked doors and windows to avoid any noise. It is also recommended that you store valuable items, phones, purses, laptops, etc. out of view. If an intruder does enter the home. These small steps can help prevent you from being a victim of this type of home invasion."

If you have any information on this case, you're being asked to call Reno Police at (775) 334-2115 or Secret Witness at (775) 322-4900. You can also text your tip to 847-411.
