Washoe County Registers Record Number of Voters For Election Day

Posted: Updated:

Washoe County officials say more than 3,500 voters registered in the past week for the November 6th election.

Officials say the county now has 234,113 registered voters, passing the previous record of 231,400 for the general election in 2008.

Registered Republicans outnumber Democrats 90,331 to 87,960, with 55,822 nonpartisan and minor party voters now registered in the county.

"With Nevada considered as a swing state in the 2012 General Election, our team has worked hard to inform Washoe County citizens about their many options to register and cast a ballot," said Dan Burk, Washoe County's Registrar of Voters . "People can still register, or make a change to an existing registration in person at the Registrar of Voters office, located at the County Administration complex at the corner of Ninth Street and Wells until October 16th."

The Registrar's Office will extend its hours for last minute registration. They will be open Saturday and Sunday, October 13 and 14, from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., and on Monday and Tuesday, October 15 and 16 from 8 a.m. - 9 p.m.
