Suspect Arrested In Sparks Bank Robbery

Posted: Updated:

Sparks Police have a man in custody for allegedly robbing a Bank of America Saturday morning.

Police say it happened at the location on Oddie Boulevard around 9 a.m. A bank employee told police that a white man wearing a red-knit hat, gray sweatshirt and blue running shorts handed a teller a note that said it was a robbery, that she needed to hand over the money and no one would get hurt.

When the teller handed the suspect the money, he ran off. The teller later told police she did not see the suspect with a weapon at the time of the incident.

Later, an officer saw an unlicensed 1986 brown over yellow Chevrolet pick-up truck in the area being driven by a man that matched the description of the suspect. Then, officers from Reno and Sparks helped each other to initiate a traffic stop. A bank employee identified the driver, Jason Schmidt, as the suspect who robbed the bank.

Schmidt is now being interviewed by Sparks detectives and an FBI field agent. Police say he is cooperating with the investigation and all the money taken from the bank has been recovered.

If you have any information on this incident, you're being asked to call Sparks detectives at (775) 353-2225.
