RTC Seeks Public Input on Region’s 2035 Transportation Plan

Posted: Updated:

The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) will host a community planning workshop on October 11 to review and discuss the transportation alternatives for the 2035 Regional Transportation Plan (RTP). The event will be held at the Washoe County Senior Center located at 1155 E. 9th Street in Reno from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

During the past year, the RTC has been working with and listening to community stakeholders and citizens to gather ideas about the future transportation needs of the region. In addition to the RTP agency and citizen working groups' monthly meetings that have been held since September 2011, the RTC has held community planning workshops and transportation-related roundtable discussions to engage the public in the RTP planning process which is fundamental for our community. The information the RTC has received has been used to identify projects and programs to be considered in the community-based RTP update for Washoe County.

Information to be discussed at the workshop includes projected regional traffic congestion analysis, potential transit improvements and enhancements, prioritizing a list of road and transportation projects, bicycle and pedestrian needs, and transportation funding issues.

The RTC encourages the public to attend the workshop and share their opinions about the future transportation needs for our community to preserve our quality-of-life, implement quality transportation systems and support economic prosperity for a vibrant economy. Under federal regulations, the RTP must be updated every four years. The current RTP is valid until July 2013.
