Department of Public Safety Holding Pet Food Drive Saturday

Posted: Updated:

The 2nd Annual MARS Petcare Biggest Little Pet Adoption Drive is taking place Saturday at the Sam's Club/Walmart parking lots on Kietzke Lane in Reno.  There are more than 20 local pet rescue groups scheduled to attend the event and hopefully place many adoptable pets into permanent loving homes.

To help support the event and create awareness for the many displaced pets in our communities, the Department of Public Safety (DPS) will be sponsoring a pet food drive at that location.  Nevada Highway Patrol troopers and other employees of the DPS will be volunteering their time during the 6-hour event scheduled from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.

To make this event a bigger success, MARS Petcare® will be doubling the amount of food collected by supplying their brands of Pedigree® or Whiskas® pet food.  The pet food will be distributed to the local rescue groups to help offset their costs of having to purchase food.

Troopers Carl Stone and Lori McGrath from the commercial enforcement section will be weighing the trailer with portable scales at the beginning and conclusion of the event to determine the total weight of pet food collected.
