ElectraTherm Readies for Next Week's Geothermal Expo

Posted: Updated:

Starting Sunday Reno will host the world's largest geothermal energy industry gathering.

Friday -- a Reno-based company gave us a sneak preview.

ElectraTherm gave us a tour of its facilities on Turbo Circle Friday.

One of its products -- that can be used to power mines with geothermal power -- will be showcased at the Geothermal Expo next week.

The company's CEO says teaching people about alternative energy is key.

"It's vastly important to get education up because if people don't understand that these resources are available today, technologies are available today and we can be competitive with the grid today, we could be changing the paradigm shift starting now getting off fossil fuels," says John Fox.

ElectraTherm gained national recognition when President Obama chose it as the site of his first presidential visit to Reno last spring.

The company employs 56 people.
