Money Watch Q & A: The Reno Angels

Posted: Updated:

If you have a great idea for a business, but you do not have the financial backing to get it off the ground, there is a group of accredited investors who just might be interested in your business proposal.

The Reno Angels is a group dedicated to providing equity capital to early and mid-stage entrepreneurial companies. The group primarily focuses on the growth of northern Nevada business. Members of the Reno Angels have extensive experience in founding, building, managing and financing companies in a wide variety of industries.

Once a month the group meets to discuss online proposals and upon selecting one, they will invite the potential business owner to present their plan. If the group chooses to invest in the company, they often become part owners.

Mike Bosma of The Bosma Group and the Bosma Business Center is a Reno Angels member. As a business owner himself, he has the expertise needed to help others who hope to follow his lead. Bosma says there are certain businesses in which the Reno Angels do not invest, such as:

-Companies offering non-convertible debt instruments
-Retail operations
-Motion picture or television projects
-The buyout of existing businesses

You have to apply online first at www.renoangels.org. There is a $100 application fee.
