With just six weeks until Election Day, Tuesday marks National Voter Registration Day.
As we saw, the Washoe County Registrar's Office is busy.
I asked the Registrar of Voters for Washoe County, Dan Burk if they have seen an influx of registered voters recently.
"We are seeing more. We're seeing more from organizations from the two major political parties. The groups are out registering people, many more people than I can remember."
Burk said they have already had 4,000 more voters register this year than the last presidential election in 2008.
The absolute last deadline you must register is October 16, so make note of that.
Burk expects about 72% to 75% voter turnout this year, which would be about what we saw in 2008.
Here's what's helping make a big difference, online registration. This is the first time you can register to vote online statewide and thousands of people are doing just that.
"It allows anybody to register, whether they're needing to change their registration, like make a change to their name. Also, new registrations who have never registered before can as well."
The Nevada Secretary of State's office is using a multi-media advertising and public relations outreach to educate and assist eligible Nevadans with the opportunity to register to vote online at www.RegisterToVoteNV.gov, or through the new voter registration Facebook app at www.facebook.com/NVSOSNOVA. Outdoor advertising for the campaign began September 10, with the television and radio portion of the campaign beginning September 17.
To register to vote online, citizens need to be at least 18 years of age by Election Day and have a Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driver's license or DMV-issued identification card. The application process pulls the signature on file with the DMV and applies it to the voter's registration record.
